What is Rakuten?

Rakuten (formerly Ebates) is a cash back shopping site. Instead of going straight to a store's website, you start your shopping at Rakuten.ca, click through to the store, and get a percentage of what you spend back as cash. It works with 750+ stores delivering to Canada, including Amazon.ca, Sephora, Old Navy, Microsoft, Under Armour and Home Hardware. Joining is free, and you keep earning cash back on the shopping you were going to do anyway.

How to get the $30 bonus

Both sides get $30. Here's how to qualify:

  1. Sign up free through the referral link. Create a new Rakuten.ca account using this link. You must be a new member and a Canadian resident.
  2. Spend $30+ on qualifying purchases within 90 days. Start at Rakuten and click through to the store so the purchase earns Cash Back. Multiple purchases can add up to the $30 — cancelled, returned or exchanged purchases don't count.
  3. Get your $30 bonus. Once your purchases qualify, the $30 bonus is added to your account and paid out with your regular quarterly Cash Back.

How Rakuten pays you

Rakuten pays Cash Back four times a year — on February 15, May 15, August 15 and November 15 — by Interac e-Transfer, PayPal or cheque. There is no limit on how many friends you can refer, and you get $30 for each friend who qualifies.
